Hot Summer Digits

Gold and Coral Nails
Originally created for QueenLatifah.com as part of a partnership with CoverGirl

Gone are the days of the french mani or winter nude. This summer, BOLDER is BETTER when it comes to nails! From the neons (which are just as popular as last summer) to blues and metallics, everyone is rockin’ stand-out digits. If you haven’t noticed, coral is HOT HOT HOT this summer and metallics are so in. We wanted to combine the hottest two trends in this easy nail tutorial. This style is super easy to recreate at home, plus if your nail color is starting to chip at the tips, just add some metallic and you’ve got a fresh new manicure!

Step 1:

After you’ve applied your base coat, apply one coat of white paint. It’s okay if it’s not perfect. This will make any color look bolder and brighter! We used CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Snow Storm.

Step 2:

Give your nails two coats of a coral polish. We used CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in My Papaya. This polish looks great without the white under as well, but the white gives it the extra boldness!

This is where it gets a little tricky (but you can do it!). Swipe across this middle of your nail in a straight line with gold (or silver!) polish (we used CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Golden Opportunity). Give yourself a little extra room in case you need to even it out. Then cover your nails below the line in the gold polish. You can do one or two coats, depending on how bright you like the metallic. It’s okay if it’s not perfect — it gives it a great “dipped” look. If you want a perfectly straight line, you can use tape or painters tape to mark off the area on your nail you don’t want to paint, but we warn you — your nails must be COMPLETELY dry to do this. We’re a little impatient so we just went freehand and it turned out alright!
